A Song For My Daughter

I wrote this song a couple years ago after playing in the snow with my one year old daughter. Watching her play and gaze at the snowflakes falling in complete wonder brought these thoughts to mind. As the celebration and remembrance of Easter is upon us this week, these thoughts are fresh in my mind. What a beautiful love story our God has written.

Love Story

All around us, the snowflakes fly

Tickling your face and nose
You giggle as you watch each one pass by
I hear the wind whisper, “Be still”

Though I groan as the cold begins to numb my hands
And I long for just a moment to rest my eyes
My mind begins to race with all my unfinished plans
Let’s hurry, I say, and just get back inside.

Chorus:
But you see the love letter floating around us
You hear the music surrounding our world.
It’s new and it’s fresh though you don’t understand it all
Our Creator, Redeemer proclaiming his love for you
Yes, you see the love story Oh my little girl, may I see it too.

When did beauty become so commonplace?
That I could walk through the world each day
And not feel the need to lift my face
To the author and creator of such majesty?

Oh what can I offer to my Lord above?
I so often forget this truth-
There is nothing I have done to deserve His love
May I once again experience it new

Because you see the love letter floating around us
You hear the music surrounding our world
It’s new and it’s fresh, though you don’t understand it all
Our Creator, Redeemer, proclaiming His love for you
Yes, you see the love story
Oh my little girl, may I see it too.

Bridge:
Each day creation lifts the praises of your name
Though with every thorn or each stormy squall
We are once again reminded of the results of our own fall.

But this true love story brings an everlasting hope
Our Redeeme

r who gave His life to pay our debt
This sweetest gift, I will not let myself forget

So I’ll tell you the love letter floating around you
I’ll sing the music surrounding your world.
We’ll speak of it daily and hold fast to its truth.
Our Creator, Redeemer and Savior proclaimed His love fo

r me and you
I’ll tell you this love story
My little girl, I’ll teach it to you.
